be what takes the euphoria
of a deep breath
and the warmth of laughter
that rings almost a little too loud
away.
you’ll notice that when you
let go of this heavy balloon,
watch it drift away for a second,
it’s not what keeps you afloat
like you thought originally,
but it’s what has been
blocking your view of the sky
for so long
(that string you hold onto
so tightly isn’t what
is going to carry you away.
if anything,
it’s deceptive,
the way that it seems like it could
make you fly,
but instead
buries you into the ground faster)
